Philippians 2:5-11
Philippians 2:5-11

“So tell my servant David that I, the Lord Almighty, say to him, ’When you die and are buried with your ancestors, I will make one of your sons king and will keep his kingdom strong. He will be the one to build a temple for me, and I will make sure his dynasty continues forever. I will be his father, and he will be my son.’” (2 Samuel 7:8 and 12-14 / TEV)

For a child has been born to us, a son has been given to us. He shoulders responsibility and is called: Extraordinary Strategist, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:6 / NET)

“Out of the stump of David’s family will grow a shoot…And the Spirit of the Lord will rest on him – the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord. He will delight in obeying the Lord.” (Isaiah 11:1-3 / NLT)

“…the heir to David’s throne will be a banner of salvation to all the world.” (Isaiah 11:10 / NLT)

“Look at my servant, whom I strengthen. He is my chosen one, who pleases me. I have put my Spirit upon him. He will bring justice to the nations. He will not shout or raise his voice in public. He will not crush the weakest reed or put out a flickering candle. He will bring justice to all who have been wronged. He will not falter or lose heart until justice prevails throughout the earth.” (Isaiah 42:1-4 / NLT)

“See, my servant will prosper; he will be highly exalted. But many were amazed when they saw him. His face was so disfigured he seemed hardly human, and from his appearance, one would scarcely know he was a man. And he will startle many nations.” (Isaiah 52:13-15 / NLT)

He was wounded because of our rebellious deeds, crushed because of our sins; he endured punishment that made us well; because of his wounds we have been healed.” (Isaiah 53:5 / NET)

“The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is upon me, for the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor…to comfort the brokenhearted…to proclaim that captives will be released…to tell those who mourn that the time of the Lord’s favor has come….” (Isaiah 61:1-2 / NLT)

“But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times.” (Micah 5:2 / NIV ®)

“Between three and six o’clock in the morning Jesus came to the disciples, walking on the water. When they saw him walking on the water, they were terrified. ’It’s a ghost!’ they said, and screamed with fear. Jesus spoke to them at once. ’Courage!’ he said. ’It is I. Don’t be afraid!’” (Matthew 14:25-27 / TEV)

“When the Son of Man comes as King and all the angels with him, he will sit on his royal throne, and the people of all the nations will be gathered before him. Then he will divide them into two groups, just as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will put the righteous people at his right and the others at his left.” (Matthew 25:31-33 / TEV)

“Then the King will say to those on his right, ’Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me...I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.’” (Matthew 25:34-36 and 40 / ASD-NIV)

“Jesus and his disciples left Galilee and went up to the villages near Caesarea Philippi. As they were walking along, he asked them, ’Who do people say I am?’…Peter replied, ’You are the Messiah.’” (Mark 8:27-29 / NLT)

“If one of you wants to be great, you must be the servant of the rest; and if one of you wants to be the first, you must be the slave of all. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served; he came to serve and to give his life to redeem many people.” (Mark 10:43-45 / TEV)

“But in those days, following that distress, ’the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from the sky, and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.’ At that time men will see the Son of Man coming in clouds with great power and glory. And he will send his angels and gather his elect from the four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of the heavens.” (Mark 13:24-27 / NIV ®)

“At that time Jesus was filled with joy by the Holy Spirit and said, ’Father, Lord of heaven and earth! I thank you because you have shown to the unlearned what you have hidden from the wise and learned. Yes, Father, this was how you were pleased to have it happen. My Father has given me all things. No one knows who the Son is except the Father, and no one knows who the Father is except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.’” (Luke 10:21-22 / TEV)

“It was about twelve o’clock when the sun stopped shinning and darkness covered the whole country until three o’clock; and the curtain hanging in the Temple was torn in two. Jesus cried out in a loud voice, ’Father! In your hands I place my spirit!’ He said this and died.” (Luke 23:44-46 / TEV)

“Very early on Sunday morning the women went to the tomb...but they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. They stood there puzzled...when...two men in bright shining clothes...said to them, ’...He is not here; He has been raised. Remember what he said to you while he was in Galilee: The Son of Man must be handed over to sinners, be crucified, and three days later rise to life.’” (Luke 24:1 and 3-7 / TEV)

“Then he led them out of the city as far as Bethany, where he raised his hands and bless them. As he was blessing them, he departed from them and was taken up into heaven.” (Luke 24:50-51 / TEV)

“The next day John saw Jesus coming towards him and said, ‘Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! This is the one I meant when I said  A man who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.’” (John 1:29-30 / NIV®)

“I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry again. Whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.” (John 6:35 / NLT)

“Jesus spoke: ’I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will have the light of life and will never walk in darkness.’” (John 8:12 / TEV)

“I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying. Everyone who lives in me and believes in me will never ever die.” (John 11:25-26 / NLT)

“Hosanna! Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord!” (John 12:13 / NET)

“Jesus replied, ’I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’” (John 14:6 / NET)

“I am the vine; you are the branches. The one who remains in me – and I in him – bears much fruit, because apart from me you can accomplish nothing.” (John 15:5 / NET)

“This letter is from Paul, a slave of Christ Jesus, chosen by God to be an apostle and sent out to preach his Good News. God promised this Good News long ago through his prophets in the Holy Scriptures. The Good News is about his Son. In his earthly life he was born into King David’s family line, and he was shown to be the Son of God when he was raised from the dead by the power of the Holy Spirit. He is Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 1:1-4 / NLT)

You should have the same attitude toward one another that Christ Jesus had, who though he existed in the form of God did not regard equality with God as something to be grasped, but emptied himself by taking on the form of a slave, by looking like other men, and by sharing in human nature. He humbled himself, by becoming obedient to the point of death – even death on a cross! As a result God exalted him and gave him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow – in heaven and on earth and under the earth – and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father.” (Philippians 2:5-11 / NET)

“He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation, for all things in heaven and on earth were created by him – all things, whether visible or invisible, whether thrones or dominions, whether principalities or powers – all things were created through him and for him. He himself is before all things and all things are held together in him. He is the head of the body, the church, as well as the beginning, the firstborn from among the dead, so that he himself may become first in all things. For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in the Son and through him to reconcile all things to himself by making peace through the blood of his cross – through him, whether things on earth or things in heaven.” (Colossians 1:15-20 / NET)

“For in him all the fullness of deity lives in bodily form, and you have been filled in him, who is the head over every ruler and authority.” (Colossians 2:9-10 / NET)

Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are - yet was without sin. Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” (Hebrews 4:14-16 / NIV ®)

“Although he was a son, he learned obedience from what he suffered and, once made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him and was designated by God to be a high priest in the order of Melchizedek.” (Hebrews 5:8-10 / NIV ®)

“Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves the father loves his child as well.” (1 John 5:1 / NIV ®)

“Now all glory to God, who is able to keep you from falling away and will bring you with great joy into his glorious presence without a single fault. All glory to him who alone is God, our Savior through Jesus Christ our Lord. All glory, majesty, power, and authority are his before all time, and in the present, and beyond all time! Amen.” (Jude 1:24-25 / NLT)
